Thrift Shop Grand Opening!

We have opened the doors to our new thrift shop on September 15, 2015! Our new thrift shop is located at 426 East Main Street, Patchogue NY 11772.

On September 13th 2015, I was sitting at my desk looking at the pantry shelves thinking we really really need to do a food drive because the shelves were almost bare. We were continuing to feed and serve those in need while we were searching for a place and while packing and moving, we didn’t have time to request food donations besides here on Facebook (thanks to those who faithfully continue to come through for the community once again). As John and I were driving from Farmingdale to Patchogue we got the most peculiar but blessed phone call ever. Paula Jennings was on the other end asking if they could donate over 2,000 items to Help For People, Inc. She was concerned about the greatest need of the public and in 3 hours about 7 car loads of about 26 beautiful angels (people) unloading soooo many bags and cases of items for the pantry with the biggest smiles and hugs and blessings :).

An amazing overwhelming feeling or gratefulness we felt lead to tears of joy. They exceeded their goal of 2000 items with over 3.500 items… as you will see in the photo. We are thankful to God this crazy bunch of folks and everyone who have been behind us since day one. And a special Big thanks to Laborers in Christ church/ministry for blessing our new building and supporting us and praying for us always.

  1. Hi! My name is Patti Horton and I have had the pleasure of meeting both Kim and John. Even though Kim was moving at the time she still ran over to my home with some food and clothing. It meant so much. My husband and I were brutally assaulted and left for dead but we miraculously survived. We are still having lots of problems and as much as I don’t like to ask for help, I am finding us going under a bit each day.
My hope is that you can help us in any way you can. My vacuum is broken, as is my oven, washer, and dryer. None of them are repairable. When we were in the hospital and rehab an old car battery burst, leaked and spread all over the laundry that was on the floor, including eating through the bags that had clothes in them. It took 5 people to bring it all up and leave it at the curb.
I gained a lot of weight after the assault (medical reasons) and now wear size 16 or XL which is way up from size 8!! Needless to say, what was “spared” does not fit me at all. No nightgowns, no cozy big t-shirts, shorts, tank tops, bathing suits, nothing. My husband was left with two t-shirts and one pair of jeans. Even all of the towels weren’t spared the battery goo! Forgive me for getting carried away. It has been 2 years of a nightmare we can’t wake from.
We have never shared with anybody the extent of the seriousness of our situation. Everyone thinks we cook our food in the toaster oven or microwave when we are actually bringing in our meals. With money being as tight as it is, it is very difficult to manage.
If you have some info or connections on how we could maybe get our lives back in some kind of order, we would be eternally grateful. Thank you for all you do in helping people with their lives.
